Potassium permanganate is a strong oxidant with the chemical formula KMnO4. It is a black purple crystal with a blue metallic luster, odorless, and in contact with certain organic substances or easily oxidized substances, prone to explosion. It is soluble in water and alkaline solutions, and slightly soluble in methanol, acetone, and sulfuric acid. Widely used as an oxidant in chemical production.
